Know Your Buying Cycles

Internet marketing is a powerful way to grow your business.  Your insight into target marketing is a key component to succeeding online.

If you know the buying cycle of your target market, you will be able to effectively market to them at all stages of the game.

Beginning the Buying Cycle

Every industry will have buyers that start their buying cycle with some basic research about the products or services they are interested in. You must put forth the effort to be involved in this stage if you want the customer.

By doing some keyword research, you can identify these early-stage buyers and capture their attention before your competitors do.  Here are some examples of the type of search terms they will use:

  2. Best Blu-ray players
  3. Best Blu-ray comparisons

The terms they use when searching will clearly identify the fact that they are in the information gathering or discovery cycle.  Provide them the information they want on your site and via email so you can follow-up to market to them.

Mid Stages of Buying Cycle

As consumers progress in the buying cycle will start to narrow the online searches.  For example, they may use the terms:

  1. Blu-ray sales
  2. Deals Best Blu-ray player
  3. Sony Blu-ray player

At this stage of the buying process, they have narrowed down what they want to buy and are in the research cycle, but have not necessarily made a final decision.  This is an important stage in the buying cycle where you need to give your consumers information that will push them towards purchasing.

End Stages of the Buying Cycle

This is the stage that matters most, so focus on it, while not neglecting the earlier stages.  The final stage of the buyers cycle is when a consumer is ready to buy, the choose cycle.  Examples of the types of search terms they look for are:

  1. LG 1080p Blu-ray player
  2. Sony BDPS 1700 Blu-ray player
  3. Samsung BD-J5100 Blu-ray player

The consumer identified what they want to buy and are now looking for where to buy it. This is when they need to know why they should buy from you.  You want to focus on service, price and reputation.

If you focus your Internet marketing efforts only on the end stages of the buying process, you will lose the opportunity to capture the interest and loyalty of potential customers in the earlier stages.  Take the time to give consumers information at every stage of the buying cycle and they will reward you with consumer confidence and loyalty.
